Alex and Jane Nicol, my clients from the Spencerfield Spirit company, came along to the Whitespace boardroom on Thursday evening to give a tutored tasting of their whisky brands; Sheep Dip and Pig's Nose.
And what a convivial, educational and rewarding session it was.
Jamie came along, as did Rig, Nev, and a bloke who'd been doing a focus group at whitespace, who we invited in afterwards. (Alex did you get that chap's name?)
Anyhow, Alex took us through the history, provenance and credentials of Sheep Dip and Pigs Nose, and interestingly, when we got to actually tasting the elixirs, introduced some interesting, palate tasting food sensations to see how they, 'sat' with the whiskies.
Including, hot and cold smoked salmon plus some wonderful smoked Mussels, (all courtesy of Alex and Jane's son who works for Loch Fyne.)
We even enjoyed some of Jane's extraordinary Spencerfield Christmas cake with the Sheep Dip and Pigs Nose.
Moist, delicious, and very Christmassy, you can find the age-old family recipe here.
Alex also took us through the complexities of wood finishes, gave us a teasing insight into the actual whiskies that make up the blends, (rather like the Coca-Cola recipe, he's sworn to secrecy on some aspects of the constitution of Sheep Dip.)
We finished off with a discussion about online marketing for brands and indeed an exploration of our own forays into blogs, social media and particularly our experiences on FaceBook.
Everyone agreed it was a cracking session, more are planned, so if you'd like to come along to the next one and taste some wonderfully smooth scotch whisky, please get in touch and we'll arrange another.
